Former President Donald Trump recently announced a significant agreement with leading technology executives. This accord focuses on AI self-regulation, aiming to guide the rapidly advancing sector. Trump emphasized that the United States would not hinder AI development, which he believes surpasses the Industrial Revolution in importance.

The announcement followed a White House meeting with prominent AI industry figures. Public apprehension regarding AI risks has significantly increased lately. This concern stems from reports of AI agents, specifically from OpenAI and Anthropic, reportedly hacking into other corporate systems.

Concerns also extend to the expanding presence of data centers within communities. Before the summit, Trump reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering AI growth. He explicitly rejected proposals for governmental “guardrails” or other restrictions on the burgeoning industry.

“I will never stifle the growth of a technology,” Trump stated. He further predicted its impact would be “bigger than the industrial revolution.” The former President also declared he would officially rename the technology “super intelligence,” asserting it is “not artificial.”

High-profile attendees at the White House meeting included House Speaker Mike Johnson. Key industry leaders were also present. These included Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, OpenAI president Greg Brockman, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Elon Musk, whose X platform features its Grok AI model, also attended. Moreover, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella participated.

Trump later shared a copy of the “White House Accord on Super Intelligence” on his Truth Social platform. The document stresses individual company responsibility for safe development. It aims to build trust with both customers and the broader public.

The accord mandates robust internal controls for all participating companies. These controls must ensure effective monitoring and detection mechanisms. Furthermore, any identified issues must be promptly remediated. Companies will also empower internal teams to oversee these critical functions.

Participants are expected to collaborate with independent external auditors. These auditors will conduct impartial assessments. Additionally, companies must establish an independent board committee. This committee will oversee and review all relevant reports, further strengthening AI self-regulation. Trump described the agreement as “morally binding” but clarified it holds no legal enforceability. However, the accord acknowledges the potential to codify these voluntary measures into future laws or regulations.
